![]() Remember you add your strength/dex bonus to each attack (and I've discovered that when you use finesse weapons, the game uses the greater of your strength/dex bonus). Conversely, you could choose 2-hand and use a greatsword, doing 2d6. So let's start with 2 short swords, dealing 1d6 damage each. Originally posted by drubries:Outside of role-playing, I don't see why anyone would ever use 2-handed fighting when Dual-wield is available. ![]() So yeah, two weapon combat pretty much blows. Even that is better than two weapon combat in most cases. Look at it this way, with 4 attacks, if you have +2 damage from duelist instead of an extra swing from dual wielding, that is +8 total damage fro duelist alone (that is not saying your using a 2 handed weapon even, just weapon/shield). This again means that a 2 handed weapon (or a weapon+shield with duelist fighting tech) is far superior to two weapon combat. The sheer number of buffs you can give your party with 2 clerics is amazing/great, and the buffs are pretty freaking strong.īattle clerics can cast haste on themselves and your pally as well, boosting AC a bit and giving them all an extra attack action (so after 5 or 8, that is 4 swings per round). Automatically can cast spells while wielding a weapon+ shield as well. Tons of healing (which they can do with a bonus action in combat). They still get 2 base swings per attack, just not till level 8 (instead of 5). All but the wizard are dex based weapon (rapiers usually) + shield, though I can switch them to a non-finesse based weapon with the giant belt.Ĭlerics have the best spells, tons of buffs, good offensive spells because of battle domain. My party has 2 battle clerics, 1 + saves pally and 1 wizard. The other doesn't need as much cha, since the aura is just a flat +1 ac and fire resist, but that is freaking useful as heck (I'd pretty much always take the +saves aura first). With a 20 cha that is +5 to all your saves which is pretty amazing. Pally has auras that affect the whole party, one requires high Cha (+saves for everyone based on cha bonus), which is what I ran with. That only lets you have 2 cleric or 2 paladin sadly not both (honestly 2 of each would rock if you didn't need some wizard spells so badly. I'd say you need/want 1 wizard for sure (just for the spells/movement etc). You want one of each of them, and perhaps 2. Honestly not impressed by fighters, rogues, rangers in this game at all, they just don't have enough advantages in my opinion.Ĭlerics and Paladins rock. Basically makes base strength obsolete once you get one. ![]() Meanwhile you CAN still switch to a 2 handed weapon if you want, by using a belt of giant strength since in this game it doesn't ADD to str, but SETS your str to 19-21-25 etc. Haste adds another 2 or 1).īasically it makes you only get hit on a 20, or a double 20 if you give enemies disadvantage (blur spell, darkness (while you have superior dark vision) etc. Shield of faith could add 2 to all of that as well. Shield spell would make it 29, the feat that adds +3 against rainged would make it 27 without a spell. With the +1 ac while wearing armor you knock that up to 24 all the time. Paladins can even get the shield spell, so a dex based pally can easily have a huge AC (studded leather +1 with 20 dex +2 shield + 1 from aura =23 base ac all the time. The 2-4 AC from a shield or shield +2 etc though is pretty huge, especially if you already have a high AC. 2d6 is nice base, but you can't use finesse with it, and you can't take power attack etc to get other things that make two handed better. Honestly though, especially in this game, I have found sword/board the best combo, especially with duelist going as well. Thing is, there are only 10 levels, so the sneak attack damage bonus isn't that much higher then a smite/divine favor/radiant bonus damage etc you can get without being a rouge, and none of them require you to have advantage or stealth etc. The only class it even kinda works for in this game is rogue (which I think is a bit underpowered honestly anyway), because the rogue HAS to hit in order to get it's sneak attack damage added. Action surge right off the bat can give you 2 main attacks, and at 5+ that is 4 (with that 2 handed sword doing 2d6 each).Īlso you have to use specific types of weapons until you get a feat, and if it's like 5e you also only get 1/2 your str/dex bonus to the offhand unless you take a specific fighting style). ![]() At 5 for the martial classes you get a second natural swing per attack. You can get a second attack, but yes, it uses your bonus action, and that is all you'll get. ![]() Actually 2 weapon combat in 5e kinda blows to be honest. ![]()
